In celebration of the 2021 18-Day Campaign to End VAW, Cavite State University GAD Resource Center conducted a webinar on SOGIE 101: Understanding Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression on December 9, 2021, 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. The webinar aimed to increase the level of awareness of the CvSU Community on the dimensions of human sexuality to prevent acts of discrimination against people based on their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, hence, reinforcing the message of inclusivity in the institution.
On behalf of the University President Dr. Hernando D. Robles, Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro, Vice President for Academic Affairs, delivered the opening remarks. She emphasized the importance of understanding sexual orientation, gender identity and expression as well as treating everyone equally without discrimination.
Ms. Joyce Dela Paz-Hilvano, Director, Commission on Population and Development Region V, discussed the topic of Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Expression, and Sex Characteristic (SOGIESC). She thoroughly explained the basics of SOGIESC at the same time stressing out that there are still a lot of gender discrimination issues that needs to be addressed. She ended her talk by stating that issues in gender discrimination can be lessened by understanding SOGIESC, accepting the differences of each individual and always respecting one another.
Ms. Sharon Isip, Dean of Office of Student Affair and Services, in her closing remarks reminded everyone of our social responsibility that is to be good and serve in the way that is not harmful to society and our environment. (MDPAlmarez)
